Ingredients:
For the Bread Pudding:
- 4 cups stale bread, cubed (French bread or brioche works well)
- 2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half for extra richness)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ cup raisins (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
For the Vanilla Sauce:
- ½ cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (for thickening)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread Pudding:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the cubed bread and let soak for 10 minutes, ensuring all pieces absorb the mixture.
- Fold in raisins (if using) and transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Drizzle melted butter on top for extra richness.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until golden brown and set.
- Make the Vanilla Sauce:
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together cream, sugar, and butter.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then add to the sauce.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring, until slightly thickened.
