Creamy Custard Puff Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

For the Custard Filling:

  • 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Custard:
    • In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk, sugar, and cornstarch.
    • In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks. Slowly add some warm milk mixture to the yolks while whisking (to temper).
    • Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook until thickened, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and butter. Let it cool, then refrigerate.
  2. Bake the Puff Pastry:
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares or circles. Place them on a lined baking sheet.
    • Brush with egg wash and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden and puffed. Let cool.
  3. Assemble the Pastries:
    • Slice the puff pastries in half.
    • Fill each with custard cream using a spoon or piping bag.
    • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate (optional).
  4. Serve & Enjoy!
